How to Install an SRT4 Fuel Pressure Regulator

The Dodge SRT-4 is a compact sport car manufactured by Chryslers Dodge division from 2003 to 2005. The SRT-4 is a turbocharged version of the Neon and has a 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine. The fuel pressure regulator in this vehicle is an integrated part of the fuel filter assembly, which is on the top of the fuel pump. The installation of a fuel pressure regulator therefore requires you to install the entire fuel filter unit.

Instructions

    1

Open the cap to the fuel tank to relieve the fuel pressure in the tank. Disconnect the fuel pump relay from the fuse box in the engine compartment. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it stalls to remove the fuel in the fuel system. Replace the fuel pump relay.

    2

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. This will keep you from accidentally starting the engine during the fuel pressure regulator installation. Depress the quick-connect fittings on the fuel line to the fuel filter assembly, and detach the fuel line.

    3

Press the locking spring tab on the side of the fuel filter assembly and rotate the fuel filter assembly 90 degrees counterclockwise. Pull the fuel filter assembly out of the fuel pump module. Remove the O-rings from the fuel filter assembly.

    4

Coat the O-rings for the fuel filter with engine oil and mount the O-rings onto the fuel filter assembly. Install the fuel filter assembly into the fuel pump module and align the hold-down tabs on the fuel filter assembly with the flanges on the fuel pump module. Push down on the fuel filter assembly and turn it 90 degrees clockwise until the fuel filter assembly locks into place.

    5

Attach the fuel line to the fuel filter assembly. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench.
