Size of the Fuel Tank for 1989 Ford Econoline

Size of the Fuel Tank for 1989 Ford Econoline

The Ford Econoline (E-150) model of van was introduced in the 1960s and had a major redesign in 1975 that lasted through 1991. As of 2010, models of this van are still in production. This van is still the base model that most commercial delivery vans are built off of, and it shares many chassis and undercarriage elements with the F-series truck.

Gas Tank Capacity

The original equipment fuel tank for the Ford E-150 van is a 22-gallon fuel tank. Replacement parts are available.

Gas Tank Placement

The E-150 places the fuel tank behind the rear axle of the van in the 1989 model; after 1992, the placement of the fuel tank was changed to accommodate a 37-gallon fuel tank.

Gas Tank Construction

Like nearly every gas tank made since the 1960s, the gas tanks for the E-150 are made out of steel, coated with zinc as an anti-corrosion barrier.

How to Read the Codes on a 1989 Toyota 22RE

You can read the codes on a 1989 Toyota 22RE using an OBD I code reader. An On-Board Diagnostics computer monitors all the functions of the Toyota. It illuminates a warning or service light on the instrument panel when it receives trouble codes from sensors positioned throughout the vehicle, This OBD I code reader is used to retrieve these codes. It is also used to reset the computer after repairs are made to the Toyota.

Instructions

    1

Plug the OBD I code reader into the diagnostic port on the driver-side dashboard near the steering column. Dont force it in or you may bend the pins inside.

    2

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "II" position. This will power most code readers. If not, look for an "on/off" switch on the code reader. Turn it on. Wait while the OBD I code reader retrieves the codes.

    3

Write down the codes on a piece of paper. Look up the codes in the code readers manual to determine their meaning.

How to Remove the Gas Tank on a 1989 Jeep Wrangler

Removing the gas tank from your 1989 Jeep Wrangler and replacing it with an aftermarket or original equipment (OE) replacement will only take a couple of hours and basic hand tools. Before you start, be sure the gas tank is empty (or as close to it as possible) to reduce the weight of the tank and the possibility of a spill. The tank sits between the frame rails under the rear of the Jeep, all the way to the rear of the frame.

Instructions

    1

Position a jack under the rear of the Jeep and raise the vehicle off of the ground. Place a set of jack stands under the rear axle housing and lower the jack, allowing the Jeep to rest on the stands.

    2

Locate the two nuts on the j-bolts at the front of the gas tank. Loosen the nuts with a wrench, allowing the tank to sag on the mounts. Reach between the tank and the body of the vehicle and remove the hose clamp from the filler hose on the top of the tank.

    3

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the terminals on top of the tank and set them aside. Position a floor jack under the center of the tank to support it, and then remove the nuts from the j-bolts.

    4

Slowly lower the jack and tank away from the frame of the truck. Remove the steel support straps from under the tank, and then slide the tank out from under the rear of the Jeep.

How to Remove the Hub Bearing on a 1989 S 10 Blazer

Replacing the wheel bearings in your 1989 Chevy S10 Blazer involves replacement of the entire hub assembly, as it is a complete assembly and not separately serviceable. A replacement hub assembly and bearing is available from most auto parts stores, or may even be available from select Chevy dealers. Removal of the hub assembly may take several hours, but you can do the job at home with basic hand tools and avoid a large repair bill for the work.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel where the bearing is defective, using a lug wrench or socket and breaker bar. Raise the front of the truck with a jack and position a set of jack stands under the frame to support the truck.

    2

Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire and wheel off the vehicle; set it aside for now. Locate the two retaining bolts at the top of the brake caliper and loosen the bolts with a socket and ratchet.

    3

Remove the brake caliper bolts then lift the caliper off the brake rotor and support it with a piece of wire or twine. Do not allow the caliper to hang on the brake hose, as the weight of the caliper will damage the hose.

    4

Slide the brake rotor off the hub assembly and set it aside. Locate the castle nut in the center of the hub and remove the cotter pin that retains the nut using a set of needle nose pliers. Discard the cotter pin, as a new one will be used during reassembly.

    5

Place a hub nut socket on the nut, and using a breaker bar, rotate the nut counterclockwise. Remove the nut from the shaft. Move to the rear of the steering knuckle and locate the three hub retaining bolts that thread into the back of the knuckle and hub.

    6

Remove the three hub retaining bolts with a socket and ratchet. Set the bolts aside and move back to the front of the knuckle.

    7

Separate the hub from the knuckle using a cold chisel and hammer, driving the chisel into the seam between the two pieces. Pull the hub out of the knuckle and off the axle shaft. Discard the old hub if the bearing is defective.
