The Brake Lights Wont Go Off in My 1993 Nissan Quest
A brake light switch, located on a bracket mounted directly in front of the brake pedal arm, controls your 1993 Nissan Quests brake lights. As the pedal arm pushes forward from the force of you stepping on the brakes, it depresses the switch and activates the brake lights. When the switch short circuits, it will either leave the lights always on or always off. In order to get the lights off, and return them to normal functionality, youll need to replace the faulty brake light switch. If you have mechanical aptitude and 25 minutes of time on your hands, you can fix this problem.

Open the Quests front door. Adjust the drivers seat as far back as it will go in order to provide yourself with sufficient room to access the under-dash area.
2Shine the work light in the drivers foot well so it illuminates the area at the top of the brake pedal arm. Retract the retaining tab on the brake light wiring pigtail with your thumb while gripping the pigtail with your foinger. Pull the pigtail off the brake light switch.
3Unbolt the faulty brake light switch from the mounting bracket using a box wrench. Discard the faulty brake light switch.
4Set the new brake light switch into the bracket. Bolt it in with the box wrench. Plug the wiring pigtail into the new brake light switch by hand.
5Depress the brake pedal and have your helper verify the brake lights work before driving your Nissan Quest.

How to Fix the Reverse Lights to a 1996 Jetta
Blown reverse light bulbs are the most common reason that your 1996 Volkswagen Jettas reverse lights will not illuminate. At its core, however, the reverse light system is controlled by a simple two-wire switch, called a reverse or back-up switch, attached to the transmission. When the switch fails, it will prevent the lights from illuminating at all. Removing and replacing the reverse switch, while outwardly simple, requires removal of the battery box and air box to provide enough clearance for your tools.

Park the Jetta and set the parking brake. Let the engine cool for at least one hour.
2Open the hood and support it in an raised position, using the hood support rod.
3Unclip and remove the battery box cover. Disconnect the cables from the battery, starting with the negative cable followed by the positive cable, using a combination wrench. Remove the battery retaining strap using a ratchet. Lift the fuse box off of the battery, then pull the battery out of the battery box. Unbolt the battery box from the engine compartment using a ratchet.
4Squeeze the spring clamp attaching the air box to the intake duct using pliers. Move the clamp away from the air box. Unclip and remove the air box cover, then pull the air filter out of the air box. Unbolt the lower half of the air box using a ratchet. Pull the air box out of the intake tube, then lift it out of the engine compartment.
5Look between the right side of the transmission housing and the inner engine compartment wall, directly below the air box mounting point. The reverse switch is located directly below the upside-down L-shaped shift linkage at the top of the transmission housing. Alternatively, the reverse switch is located on the top right side of the transmission housing, if you are working on a Jetta fitted with an automatic transmission.
6Unplug the two-pin electrical connector at the rear of the reverse switch. Unscrew the reverse switch from the transmission using an adjustable wrench.
7Screw the new reverse switch into the transmission housing by hand. Tighten the switch to 15 foot-pounds, using a crow foot wrench and a torque wrench. Plug the electrical connector into the end of the switch.
8Push the air box into the intake tube, then slide the spring clamp into place. Reinstall the lower air box into the engine compartment, followed by the air filter and air box cover.
9Reinstall the battery box and battery. Place the fuse box over the top of the battery, then reattach the battery cables, starting with the positive cable followed by the negative cable. Tighten the battery terminal bolts using a combination wrench.
10Reattach the battery box lid and close the Jettas hood.

How to Remove Optra Tail Lights
The law states that every vehicle on the road should have two working headlights, as well as two tail lights. This is for the safety of yourself and the other drivers on the road, as you must be able to see the road in front of you and be warned if a car is slowing down. If you need new tail lights on your Chevrolet Optra, the replacement procedure will only take you a few minutes.

Go to the back of your Chevrolet Optra and open the trunk. Clear the trunk on the side that the broken tail light is on. You want full access to this area.
2Move the cloth trunk mat away from the back of the tail light you are fixing. Locate the plastic nuts that are holding the tail light in place. Twist these nuts in a counterclockwise direction until they come all the way off. Use an adjustable wrench if you cannot loosen these with your fingers.
3Pull the tail light fixture out. If it gets stuck, you can push on the fixture from the inside of the trunk. Use gentle, but firm, pressure to remove the tail light.
4Replace the tail light with a new fixture. Make sure it is in securely. Tighten the plastic nuts in a clockwise direction and replace the cloth trunk mat.

How to Fix Car Brake Lights
It is important to keep your vehicles brake lights functioning well. Brake lights serve as a guide to the driver behind you to brake when you are slowing your car down. Malfunctioning brake lights could cause accidents on the road. Fixing the car brake lights usually involves changing the malfunctioning light bulb.

Park your vehicle and turn off the ignition. Open the vehicles trunk and access the brake light assembly and remove the red and yellow plastic cover of the brake lights by unscrewing it using the Phillips-head screwdriver in order to access the light bulb. Set aside the screws as it will be needed later on.
2Locate the brake light bulb. It is usually the center bulb of three bulbs located in the area. Unscrew the brake light bulb by pushing it slightly and turning it counterclockwise at the same time. Set it aside.
3Clean the area where you removed the bulb with a dry rag. You can also use a steel brush if there is accumulated dirt on the socket. The accumulated dirt can sometimes be the cause of the malfunctioning brake light.
4Install a new light bulb on the socket by pushing it slightly and twisting it in a clockwise direction. Make sure the bulb is aligned well and screwed in evenly.
5Check the light bulb to ensure it works by turning on the car and asking someone to push on the brake pedal while you go to the back of the vehicle to see if it lights up.
6Reattach the plastic cover by inserting the screws in the designated holes and tightening the screws, turning clockwise, using the Phillips-head screwdriver. Put back the brake light assembly at the back of the vehicles trunk.
7Remove the brake light cover on the vehicles other side and follow steps 2 to 6 to replace the light bulb.

How to Change the Tail Lights on a Saturn SC1
The tail lights on the Saturn SC1 are also the brake lights for the coupe. The procedure to replace the rear lighting on any Saturn vehicle from 1993 through 2002 is very similar. There are three lights per tail light assembly--the backup/reverse light, the turn signal and the tail light/brake light bulb. The bulb part number changed in 2001, but the procedure to remove the tail light assembly remains the same.

Verify that the headlight switch is in the "Off" position. Release the trunk latch.
2Open the trunk and locate the two retaining screws on the inside of the tail light assembly.
3Remove the two screws with a T-15 Torx head screwdriver.
4Pull the assembly outward and away from the back of the SC1 far enough to access the wire harness connections attached to the back of the assembly.
5Press the lock of the tail light/brake light socket (top center bulb inside the red section of the tail light assembly) and twist the socket counterclockwise 1/3 of a turn then pull the bulb and socket assembly out of the tail light assembly.
6Pull the bulb straight up and out of the socket then push in the 3157 replacement bulb. For the 2057 bulb, push slightly downward on the glass bulb and rotate it 1/4-turn counterclockwise to remove it from the socket. Align the small tabs at the base of the replacement bulb to the grooves in the socket and twist the bulb 1/4-turn clockwise (again, pushing slightly downward on the bulb) until it locks into place.
