How to Clear Codes on the 1985 Toyota Truck

How to Clear Codes on the 1985 Toyota Truck

On-board diagnostics (OBD) computers were put into vehicles in the early 1980s to monitor and troubleshoot problems within vehicles. To clear the codes in your 1985 Toyota truck you need only an end wrench and a few moments of your time. Clearing the codes will turn off all lights such as "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" from your instrument cluster. Make sure you have all repairs and servicing done before you clear the codes to allow the OBD computer to function properly.

Instructions

    1

Check to make sure your ignition is completely off. Then pull the hood release lever.

    2

Locate the battery under the hood. Find the negative terminal on the battery. Look for a retaining nut attached to the clamp and loosen it using the end wrench.

    3

Slip the clamp off of the negative terminal, taking care to keep it away from the positive side of the battery.

    4

Wait a minute and then put it back on the negative terminal. Tighten the nut with the end wrench. Lower the hood.

    5

Put the key into the ignition and start the truck. Look on the instrument panel to make sure all the lights are off.

How do I Clear a Check Engine Light On a 1993 Mercedes Benz

How do I Clear a Check Engine Light On a 1993 Mercedes Benz?

The 1993 Mercedes Benz lets you know when you need to have your engine looked at by a mechanic by illuminating the "Check Engine" light on your control panel. The cause of this light can be diagnosed using an OBD II scanner tool that reads trouble codes, telling you exactly what is wrong with your car. After the codes have been read and the problem repaired, you will want to clear the check engine light to turn it off. This can be done at home with no special tools required and just a few minutes of your time.

Instructions

    1

Put the key into the ignition and turn the car on but dont start the engine. Notice the display on the instrument panel between the tachometer and the speedometer.

    2

Press the button on the lower left side of the steering wheel. The display will tell you why the light is on.

    3

Look for the button next to the one you just pushed and press it. This will verify the reason for the check engine light.

    4

Find the reset button on the instrument panel. This is located on the left side of the panel. Press and hold it until you see the instructions telling you to hold it for 3 seconds to reset it. Let go of the reset button.

    5

Press the reset button one more time and hold it until the display indicates that the check engine light has been reset. Release the button. The check engine light should now be off.

How to Clear Coat Your Car

How to Clear Coat Your Car

A clear coat on a car gives it a new, fresh look, and it protects the paint job from the elements. If you are refinishing your car or are looking to customize a vehicle, the clear coat is applied after you finish painting. You can hire a professional to finish your car for you, but this is expensive. Clear coating your own car takes little time and effort and is also inexpensive. To do it yourself, you need little more than some sandpaper, an airbrush and some clear coat.

Instructions

    1

Cover anything you do not want clear coated with newspaper or plastic sheeting. This includes windows, door handles, mirrors and head and tail lights. Use masking tape to secure the protective covering in place.

    2

Dip your sandpaper in water to moisten it. Use the wet sandpaper to sand the entire surface of your car until it is smooth. Remoisten the sandpaper as needed throughout the sanding. When choosing sandpaper, use a fine grain. Leave the car to dry completely.

    3

Wipe your entire car down with a wet rag to remove any dust and debris. When you clear coat, you will seal in everything on the cars surface. Allow the car to dry again.

    4

Prepare your clear coat according to manufacturers instructions. Each brand will have a different set of instructions on mixing. Add the mixed clear coat to an airbrush.

    5

Use steady strokes to coat the entire car with the airbrush. Work in 12 inch sections to ensure evenness in the coating.

    6

Leave your clear coat to dry completely. Drying times will vary by product as well as environmental conditions.

    7

Remove all of the protective coverings from your car.

    8

Polish your car using an electric buffer and buffing compound of your choice.
