The Removal of Automotive Gasket Glue
When replacing gaskets in an automobiles engine, mechanics will sometimes use a glue to help hold the gasket in place. If these gaskets fail and need to be replaced, you must completely remove the residual gasket glue so that the new gasket will rest properly and create a tight seal. You can effectively remove residual gasket with a chemical solvent and a gasket scraper. Use the solvent to loosen the glue, and then use the scraper to remove the gasket glue from the surface.
Instructions

Remove as much residual gasket glue as possible using a plastic or metal scraping instrument. Be caul not to gouge the metal around where the gasket glue is being removed.
2Follow the gasket glue remover manufacturers instructions and either spray the remover onto the metal surface, or apply the remover with a paint brush.
3Allow the gasket glue remover to sit on the surface and loosen the material. Follow the glue remover manufacturers instructions regarding sitting time, typically 20 to 30 minutes.
4Scrape the gasket glue off the surface with the gasket scraper, once the sitting time for the glue remover expires.
5Repeat this process as necessary to completely remove all residual glue.

Automotive Computer Reprogramming Tools
Automotive reprogramming or re-flashing is the act of basically rebooting the automotive engine control modules (ECMs). ECMs are small computers built into your vehicle, and they have many standard computer features, including random access memory (RAM), a microprocessor and chips. These computers also have programmable read-only memory (PRsaya) type chips, which help calibrate the ECM computer. When you reprogram your vehicle, you are actually deleting the data stored on the PRsaya and reprogramming it with new accurate data.
CarDAQ-Plus
This tool is designed to work with any type of controller area network (CAN), which is generally found in newer model cars and trucks. This tool comes with both a universal serial bus (USB) port and an Ethernet port, which allows you to connect this tool to your computer. This tool helps you diagnose problems on CAN vehicles, and you can use this tool to re-flash the computer systems. Other features of this tool include that it comes with expansion slots, which allow you to add memory and additional functionality, and the system can be upgraded via firmware updates. As of 2010, this tool costs $1,638, and is manufactured by Drew Technologies. It is targeted to industry professionals and smaller automotive repair shops.
Race Technology
This re-flashing software is for Race Technology products, and this is a free product. You just need to download it from the company website. This tool is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and 7, and this re-flashing software allows you to delete stored information. Then, the software will update the system with the latest firmware updates, which include security and software updates. These updates could also correct things like emission, transmission and fuel economy problems. You must plug your device into either a computer or a laptop since this is where you will install the software.
Universal Reprogrammer
The Universal Reprogrammer is compatible with General Motors (GM), Toyota, Ford and Chrysler vehicles, and it allows you to re-flash your system using the same software updates as the dealer does. This is a stand-alone tool, and it uses a wizard to guide you through the process. Other features of this reprogrammer include that it comes with its own scan tool, and it is compatible with Windows XP with the Service Pack 3 (SP3), Vista and 7, and it is only compatible with 32-bit systems. As of 2010, the Universal Reprogrammer costs between $1,000 and $2,395 if you want a wired connection, and it costs between $1,000 and $2,495 if you would like a wireless connection.

How to Remove 3M Automotive Tape
Used to attach moldings, emblems and accessories to both the interior and exterior of your car, 3M double-sided foam tape can effectively mount items to your vehicle. Peel off the covering and stick on the tape with a little pressure to make it adhere. When it comes to removing the tape, however, it may prove a little more difficult. Even after prying the object off, you will have to tackle the tape residue left behind.

Pry the object off carefully, if it is mounted in a sturdy area. Use your fingers to pull, avoiding tools which may damage your car while levering on the piece you wish to remove.
2Heat the object and surrounding surface with a hair dryer if it is in a breakable area or you are concerned about breaking the object. Hold the hair dryer 3 to 4 inches from the surface and allow it to run for three or four minutes. Pull carefully to remove the item.
3Cut a short section of fishing line and wrap it around the fingers of both your hands, just like you are preparing to floss your teeth, if an object remains mounted. Slide the line gradually behind the object and saw back and forth to cut through the adhesive bond. Remove the mounted item and set it aside.
4Spray or wipe a 3M brand adhesive remover or other brand adhesive solvent onto the area where the item was mounted. Allow it to sit on the residue for a couple minutes, then scrape gently with a plastic squeegee or rub with a cotton rag. Continue scraping and scrubbing until the area is clear. Reapply the solvent as necessary while you work.
5Clean the area after adhesive removal. Use a mild dish soap and very warm water; dry thoroughly to finish.
