How to Adjust the Speed on a 150CC Gas Scooter

How to Adjust the Speed on a 150CC Gas Scooter

150 CC gas scooters provide a fun and convenient way to get around town. Unfortunately, as time goes on, these scooters often lose speed. Additionally, because they are technically motorcycles and not mere scooters, sometimes their speed can be too great for certain driving situations. Both scenarios require you to adjust the speed on your 150cc gas scooter. Though there are many methods for adjusting the speed of your 150cc gas scooter, the safest and easiest legal method for adjusting the speed is removing or inserting a speed inhibiting washer in the variator compartment.

Instructions

    1

Remove the bolts holding the cover of your scooters variator in place. The variator is a part of your scooters transmission system. It looks like two large sprockets connected by a rubber belt. There will be anywhere between six to ten bolts holding the cover in place.

    2

Remove the lug nut holding the toothed sprocket in place.

    3

Remove the transmission washer from the peg that is connected the belt to the toothed sprocket to increase your scooters speed or add a washer to the peg to decrease your scooters speed.

    4

Replace the lug nut holding the toothed sprocket in place.

    5

Replace the bolts holding the cover of your scooters variator in place.

How to Remove the Gas Tank on a 1989 Jeep Wrangler

Removing the gas tank from your 1989 Jeep Wrangler and replacing it with an aftermarket or original equipment (OE) replacement will only take a couple of hours and basic hand tools. Before you start, be sure the gas tank is empty (or as close to it as possible) to reduce the weight of the tank and the possibility of a spill. The tank sits between the frame rails under the rear of the Jeep, all the way to the rear of the frame.

Instructions

    1

Position a jack under the rear of the Jeep and raise the vehicle off of the ground. Place a set of jack stands under the rear axle housing and lower the jack, allowing the Jeep to rest on the stands.

    2

Locate the two nuts on the j-bolts at the front of the gas tank. Loosen the nuts with a wrench, allowing the tank to sag on the mounts. Reach between the tank and the body of the vehicle and remove the hose clamp from the filler hose on the top of the tank.

    3

Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the terminals on top of the tank and set them aside. Position a floor jack under the center of the tank to support it, and then remove the nuts from the j-bolts.

    4

Slowly lower the jack and tank away from the frame of the truck. Remove the steel support straps from under the tank, and then slide the tank out from under the rear of the Jeep.

How to Use a BernzOmatic OX0225 Gas Torch

The BernzOmatic 0X2550 is a combination cutting, welding and brazing torch. While it is billed as a cutting torch, it is not a torch that one would use for cutting 3/8-inch steel plate. It is very well suited for cutting off small fasteners, but that is about the extent of its cutting capabilities. It is also well suited for welding and brazing.

Instructions

    1

Screw the oxygen cylinder onto the torchs oxygen valve. The oxygen valve is the taller of the two brass connections, and it has a black plastic knob on the top. Screw the MAPP gas cylinder onto the shorter brass connector with the black plastic knob on the side. Set the bottles on the wire stand included with the kit.

    2

Purge the lines. Open the oxygen valve until pure oxygen comes out of the end of the burner wand. Close the oxygen valve. Open the gas valve until you detect the odor of the MAPP gas. Close the valve. Purging the lines ensures that there is no oxygen in the gas line, and no gas in the oxygen line.

    3

Open the MAPP gas valve by turning the black plastic knob on the side of the brass cylinder connection counterclockwise one-eighth turn.

    4

Ignite the gas at the end of the burner wand by holding the cup of the spark lighter over the end of the wand and squeezing the spring-loaded handle of the spark lighter to create a spark that ignites the gas. Open the gas valve until the flame stops smoking. Open the valve on the oxygen tank connector until the flame loses its feather around the inner core of the flame.

    5

Perform the intended task. Close the oxygen valve. Close the MAPP gas valve. Unscrew both the oxygen and MAPP gas cylinder.

What Happens When You Put Sand in a Gas Tank

What Happens When You Put Sand in a Gas Tank?

Sand is best left on the beach or in a sand box. If it makes its way to your autos gas tank you may be in for a headache and expense.

History

The concepts of putting something other than gas in the gas tank allegedly originated in the 1996 movie, "Kingpin," where sugar was placed in a victims gas tank.

Potential Damage

If the tank was filled up with sand to the brim, it could damage the engine. Snopes.com notes that most cars contain a "sock" at the end of the tanks pickup tube that prevents anything that is not liquid from entering. The cars fuel filter should collect any remaining sand from entering the engine.

Solution

A complete flush of the tank and a change of the fuel filter should fix the problem. This kind of repair could range anywhere from $450 to $500.

Prevention

A locking gas cap might be a good investment. Speedconcepts.net offers several varieties for different vehicles in the $30 to $40 range.
