How to Troubleshoot a Ford Taurus Alarm System

Newer Ford Taurus cars are equipped with a car alarm that protects your vehicle from getting stolen or broken into. It is a good idea to arm your car anytime it is out of your sight. However, the car alarm can cause nuisance if it goes off when its not supposed to or malfunctions. It can cause panic instead of relief. Troubleshooting and fixing the problem with the alarm may help ease any frustrations and keep you from having to get your Taurus serviced.

Instructions

    Check all the car doors to ensure that they are all latched tightly. The dome light in your Taurus will usually indicate if one of the doors is open. All doors must be secured before you leave your car to keep the alarm from sounding.

    Replace the battery in your key fob. If the battery runs low, it can send unnecessary signals to your alarm system.

    Make sure there is nothing is blocking the radio waves from your remote control to your Taurus when you are using it. Remove any obstacles between you and your vehicle.

    Make sure you aim directly at the car. Some Taurus are not sensitive enough to receive signal from the car alarm remote control if you are a certain distance away.

The car alarm on your 2000 Windstar minivan is wired into your vans battery. When you are making a repair to your car such as a battery change out your alarm can go off. You can easily disable the Windstars car alarm by disconnecting the battery from the alarm. The battery is connected to the Windstar batterys negative terminal. Disconnecting the terminal from the battery will disable the alarm.

Instructions

    1

    Raise the hood of the Windstar to gain access to the battery.

    2

    Loosen the negative battery terminal labeled with a "-" with a socket wrench.

    3

    Disconnect the terminal from the battery to disable the alarm system.

How to Disable the Alarm in a 1995 4Runner

The 1995 4Runner is manufactured by Toyota. The 1995 models came with onboard alarms. These alarms can go off when changing the battery or making other repairs to the vehicle. If you want to disable the car alarm, you will need to go through the ignition cylinder inside your 4Runner. This task is not very difficult, and you will not need advanced automotive knowledge to complete it.

Instructions

    1

    Put your key into the 4Runners ignition and turn on the cars electrical system without starting the car.

    2

    Use a flathead screwdriver or your fingers to pry the dashboard panels off your ignition cylinder.

    3

    Locate the alarm transmitter in the ignition cylinder. This is a small black box with a switch on it labeled "Valet Switch."

    4

    Turn the valet switch to the "Off" position and wait until the LED light goes out.

    5

    Put the dashboard panels back onto the ignition cylinder.

How to Disconnect the Alarm in a Honda Odyssey

The Honda Odyssey comes with a car alarm to protect against car theft. If you want to disable the car alarm from your Honda Odyssey, you need to take the power away from the alarm. The car alarm is wired directly into the cars battery. Disconnecting the negative lead from the Odysseys battery will disable the alarm. You dont have to be a certified mechanic to disable your car alarm. You can easily do it yourself with little hassle.

Instructions

    1

    Release the hood latch on the inside of the Honda Odyssey to gain access to the motor and the battery.

    2

    Locate the negative terminal connected to the battery. The negative terminal will be labeled with "-" next to it.

    3

    Use a socket wrench or a pair of channel locks to loosen the connection to the battery terminal.

    4

    Remove the negative battery terminal from the battery to disable the car alarm.
